2011 iMac will not accept password

My 2011 iMac running High Sierra all of a sudden will not accept the known password. It also will not connect with an Apple keyboard. I can use a wired keyboard. I tried to restore from a Time Machine back up, but the only backups shown are for a different computer (Macbook). I verified that the backups for the iMac are on the same drive, but cannot access them.

Each computer has a separate name for the files in Time Machine. I was able to see them in separate folders on my Macbook. But that's not important anymore as I can no longer access them since I cannot mount the external HD anymore. So I am working on the drive now. I may have to go to a technician, although where I live in Central America there are few choices.
