How to have Siri announce but not immediately read new messages in CarPlay?

I can't seem to find the setting that has Siri announce a new text message but not read it immediately. Is there a way to have Siri ask if you would like it read aloud?

Siri will only ask you if you want the message read aloud if it's considered a long notification. Otherwise they will automatically be read out. You could try adding the Announce Notification control to your Control Center, then turn it on and off whenever you want a notification read aloud or not.
