Adding Homehub; Owner vs Admin

Hello forums,

I'm just posting this to verify something. I need to verify whether or not a Resident with Admin rights is able to add a homehub to an existing network. As of this writing, my guess is a NO, admins do not have rights to add a homehub (appletv or homepod).

I would prefer to be wrong here. Can anyone confirm?

Thank you.

HomeKit can have one administrative user that manages it, and that Apple Account should also be used for the home hub device(s) on that network. If an Apple TV box (or HomePod speaker) is registered to (initial/primary user) person 1, then it cannot be a home hub on the HomeKit setup of person 2.

Other users can be granted privileges for certain HomeKit tasks, but that doesn’t change the former stipulation.

This is not per se related to the admin of the home network (LAN). HomeKit and the devices need access to the network, but don’t need other special network privileges.

thanks for taking the time to reply. i want to take a moment here to say that my title of "adding homehub" should really say "adding appletv".

not sure my question is answered. naming conventions that apple chose for this and that can make things more confusing than they need to be. so here's my situation.

I am owner of apple home network (my network of homekit and matter devices, etc) and i've assigned another member "admin" rights to add and edit accessories. that member (not i) purchased an appletv to use as the hub to connect as the smart things. They set up the new appletv using their phone and their credentials (they are also the *only* user and the default user).

However, when they go to assign it to a room, our expected rooms are not there. instead, what is there are new, default room that end up creating a new Home called MyHome and adds the appletv to that newly created home.

can a non-owner add an appletv to a room of an apple home where they have admin rights?

thanks!
