character viewer stops displaying overtime

I have been having the same problem with the last several years of macOS versions (I can't remember when it started but I know that Mojave 10.14.6 does not have this issue).

It occurs for me when I customize the character lists on the left to include Code Tables/Unicode. Before it stops displaying completely it will show the following behavior where it will have a delay or require that I hit the Fn key several times before it shows up. It gets progressively worse has time goes on.

WORK AROUND

When I notice a slow down I turn off the Unicode Code Table from showing up in the list and close Character Viewer. It immediately becomes responsive again showing up as soon as I press Fn.

Below is a related post to the same issue but it is locked for comments.

Character Viewer

System Software Overview:

 System Version: macOS 10.15.6 (19G2021)

The character acts as intended for days or weeks. Then it stops appearing when I click Show Emoji & Symbols.

My only solution so far is to restart, which cost me a lot of time closing, opening and (re) establishing online connections. This has been happening for a few months. It happens with Word, BBEdit, Skim, ..., it is clearly a macOS problem.

If I could reach Apple Support, I would.

Any ideas?
