Delete and reinstall mail app to solve notification issues

iPhone 16 with iOS 18.6 - a couple of days ago, after years with no problems, I was not getting my sound notifications for my email. I searched this community high and low for answers, and tried them all (short of resetting my entire phone). Nothing worked. As a last resort I deleted all email accounts from my phone, then proceeded to delete the apple mail app. I did a hard restart, installed the mail app, and added my email accounts. My sound notifications are back!! I hope this helps someone who was as frustrated as I was. Have a great day :-)
