Changing profile name in 2025? Why are all answers closed & many years old?

Changing your Username is done by the Mods only. I am surprised that was not made clear in the posts you viewed. I can notify the mods for you and can expect an email from them. It is pretty easy actually, but not one allowed for users to do on their own. Apple's playground = Apple's rules.

Threads are closed when the OP's question has been answered appropriately with enough time passing for additional comments, or where the OP is no longer responding. You certainly would not want to post on a year old thread and it is advised that you create a new one, just like you have done here. That is the best way to get a timely response without a comment on an old post being buried and no one may not even answer an additional question on such an old post.

I've been here long enough to remember the solid reason for that name changing policy. . Before it, ill-meaning "shapeshifters' were haunting this place and harassing people, then changing names and coming right back the next day with more flung dung. We lost some really superb contributors to these bozos. The problem has been virtually eliminated through mod-managed username changes.

So once again, the actions of few who cannot control themselves take away privileges from those who can.
