How do I disable the Caps Lock indicator on my Mac?

Just got a new macbook pro, M4, running Sequoia 15.6.

Whenever I turn on Caps Lock which is often for my work. That stupid blue arrow wont go away. I've already turned off Full Keyboard Access in accessibility. The arrow is still there. Is there anyway to get rid of it? You can see the arrow below.

It's so annoying and really does interrupt with my work.

please note— this was a feature introduced back in the macOS Sonoma 2023...

You do have options, either turn it off for each use case, disable the new feature, or remove it totally.

Click on the caps lock symbol on screen will shut it off, the very next time you turn on caps lock ( to work in all caps) it will remain off for the duration until you hit caps lock again. This is how it works, for 1-cycle .

you can Disable Caps Lock Indicator—from the Terminal.app copy & paste:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/UIKit.plist redesigned_text_cursor -dict-add Enabled -bool NO

(note: your psswd will not echo on screen type it in any way, use the enter\return key to proceed.)

reboot is (or if ) necessary — I don't remember that detail...

to disable the caps lock altogether—

System Settings>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts>Modifier Keys>Caps Lock Key>> Caps Lock> No Action

Insane choice for them to do that. Maybe I'll return and get an older model, this truly get's in the way of my work.

It has saved me a lot of time. It's very useful if the caps lock is on and you're not aware of it and you try to type passwords. The way my hands sit on the keyboard, I don't see the indicator on the keys. I love it.

But you should definitely submit feedback:

It is actually pretty simple to remove with just a copy/paste with the provided command in Terminal. I bet it can be done in less than 15 seconds.

Previously without the Caps Lock Indicator, users found themselves locked out of their Mac by entering the incorrect login not realizing they had Caps Lock turned on. That requires much more time to reset the login password, with the Mac completely unusable until it has been reset.

No crazy talk is having to use the terminal to turn off a feature that wasn't there in pervious OS. This is feature bloat.

This is a WONDERFUL FEATURE, I love it, it has saved my butt more than once. There are probably 100 features that weren’t in the previous version. Do you want all of the removed, or just the ones that you don’t like?
