Why won't iMovie recognize my Lacie hard drive.

In iMovie when I go to download clips from my Lacie hard drive the Lacie doesn't show up. I am presently using the 1TB Lacie for automatically back up my MacBook. Is there some changes I need to make so the Lacie shows up in iMove so I can download my video clips. I am eight months using a MacBook so my knowledge is limited. I come from about 35 years of Windows.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 15.6

Hi,

Hi,

Can you explain in more detail what you mean when you say that the Lacie "doesn't show up". Do you mean that it is not showing up in the sidebar of the iMovie download window, where it should be listed? If that's the case, try dragging the clips directly from the Lacie disc to your desktop, and from there drag it into an iMovie timeline or event. On the other hand, if the Lacie is in fact listed in the download window sidebar, click on it to display in the download window all of the files stored on the Lacie. From there you should be able to download your files into iMovie.

If the above workaround doesn't work, I have a few questions for information purposes.

When you plug your Lacie external drive into your Mac, does the Lacie's icon show up on your desktop?

If so, do a Control-click/Get Info on the Lacie's icon. In the Get Info information box, what does it show as the format for the Lacie drive?

Do you have your iMovie library stored (located) on the Lacie drive?

Have you tested the Thunderbolt socket on your Mac (where your Lacie is plugged in) with another device to make sure that the socket is working properly?
