iPhone apps won't update automatically from the App Store

It’s been about 8 months now and my apps no longer automatically update like they use to. I have to do it myself and unfortunately I forget at times because I was so used to it being done on its own. I’ll have 40 plus apps needing an Update at times now. I’ve tried turn auto updates off an on and restarting my phone nothings helped so far. Is anyone else having this problem?? Did you fix it if so how?? Thanks in advance for any help or ideas anyway have!
