Pre-ordered iTunes album not downloading without Apple Music subscription

I pre-ordered Babymetal’s newest album, downloaded the four songs that were already out and waited for the rest of the album to release.

The release date has passed (August 8) I have gotten the link to download the rest of the album, but when I try I get a notification saying I have no subscription to Apple Music.

How do I download the music that I have paid for?

I am using an iPhone 12 Pro Max if that is relevant

I do not want an Apple music subscription.

ive tried to find an answer but most other questions here are about folks who haven’t gotten the link yet.

You are absolutely correct. There is ZERO reason that they demand an additional subscription for something that you have paid for. I think the legal term is extortion. I’m in the same boat with an album I purchased in advance. It doesn’t release until September, but there are several songs that have been released and Apple will not let me download them unless I sign up for a trial subscription that will become a paid subscription if I don’t remember to cancel it (which probably requires something else onerous or hoops to needlessly jump through).

If apple is going to start extorting its customers that have paid tens-of-thousands of $ to them…….
