A. View the RAM:

What’s in your library shouldn’t make a difference. If your hard drive is full, or the RAM is eaten up 100%, then expect the Mac to just not respond. But, see if it is high in RAM usage —if a high percentage, that would indicate a bug: Activity Monitor User Guide for Mac - Apple Support

B. Boot in Safe Mode:

While in Safe Mode, Login Items don’t open at login and certain system files are fixed. So, try booting in Safe Mode, and see where that gets you: Start Up your Mac in Safe Mode - Apple Support
