Apple HomeKit Services, Automations and Scenes. Feedback and Suggestions?
I'm trying to condense my "Smart" home into a more manageable state, and move away from Amazon/Alexa, as I'm fed up of being constantly bombarded by adverts for things I have no desire to watch/use/purchase.
To begin this journey, I have replaced my Firestick with an Apple TV, as I needed a hub for running the automations on, and it's made a noticeable difference in the amount of adverts shoved in my face... zero.
Fortunately, I purchased Philips Hue lighting devices initially, and have been able to import these into Homekit easily. I also have some Matter enabled plugs that operate a few devices in my home office. I'll be looking to replace my Hive central heating controller with a Tado X controller, assuming they support a central heating system that also heats the hot water on a separate circuit. I'll be replacing the various Smart Speakers as and when I can.
Anyway to my question, is it possible using Apple Homekit and automations/scenes, to load/play/pause streaming services, like Plex/Netflix/Apple TV/Disney? I can see I can pause play audio, but nothing about loading an app/service?
It seems like the Homekit offering from Apple needs more focus and attention, as is not as robust as Amazons far reaching ecosystem, nor are the automations as customisable as required, for example. I have a contact sensor on one of the doors. I need Apple HomeKit to offer the ability to do an "if" AND "When" trigger, eg "If door contact sensor equals open" AND "When the time is sunset" turn on the lights. (Also dimming/gradual turning on of lights would be great too). I have it when the door opens and it's past sunset it turns on the light, but that doesn't turn on the light if I've already got the door open, it's only when the state changes that it triggers.
