iTunes Match sends everything to my iPhone

I subscribed to iTunes Match about a year ago and the music library on my Mac Mini has successfully uploaded and the songs matched as appropriate. However, every playlist that I had set up prior to iTunes Match now syncs to my iPhone. Is there a way to identify certain playlists that I want to be available on my phone? I have a lot of playlists that I have no reason to use on a regular basis. For example, I created a playlist for my granddaughter’s wedding that I want to keep but have no ongoing use for on my iPhone. Space on my phone is not an issue, but the list of available playlists seems to be in some random order and wading them to find the one or two I want to play is becoming cumbersome.
