ipod nano 3rd gen stuck on 0:00

So, I have an ipod nano 3rd generation and when I attempt to play music its stuck on 0:00 and if I try to skip to a part the ipod returns to the apple logo. I did update it and maybe that's why. Also, when i try to plug it into my computer it will not show up on itunes. Maybe the itunes thing is just an update since ipods are old but if anyone has suggestions I would gladly appreciate it.
