Getting error when deleting old files/pictures on my iMac

Hello,

When I try to remove old files and photos, I keep receiving this message "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "folder title" can't be read or written. (error code-36)

It won't let me delete or move to trash.

Hi,

First of all, try to run FirstAid of Disk Utility on boot drive if there is no error on it.

If you have extra external HDD which can be small enough installing macOS on it.

1) Installing macOS on it.

2) Starting up from external drive.

3) You can delete the data on internal drive which you can't delete before.

You need to be much more specific by writing out the exact steps you are taking to remove the old files and photos, also include exactly where the files are stored!!!! We don't know your work flow so we don't have enough information to help you troubleshoot the issue, without specifics we would have to guess at what you are doing.

Please start by explaining a simple file (for example an unwanted Excel spreadsheet) and then once we have solved that issue we can work on the photos.
