Random "J" key presses on MacBook Air (2020) – how can I fix this?

I have a 13.3" MacBook Air (2020), and recently the keyboard has started randomly typing the letter "J," either while I'm typing or even when I'm just watching YouTube or on a Zoom call.

I tried removing the keycap to see if there was anything I could fix, but it didn’t help much. Pressing down firmly on the "J" key seems to stop the issue temporarily, but it eventually comes back.

Is there anything I can do to fix this myself before going in for service? If I go to service, what can they do and how much would it cost?

Hi,

Try to check your hardware with Apple Diagnostics if it reports keyboard related error.

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac – Apple Support (AU)

As for the cost of repair the keyboard, contact Apple Support and ask the cost of repairing keyboard.

Official Apple Support

I've read somewhere for repairing keyboard costs between $180 and $780, with the price depending on the specific model, the extent of the damage, and whether you have AppleCare.
