Ipod Nano 7th gen bluetooth issue

So I recently got my iPod Nano 7th gen out and up-to-date. I connected my 2nd gen AirPods Pro to them, but no music plays. I use some cheap gas station Bluetooth headphones, and music plays out of them with no issue. I was hoping to get some insight on why cheap headphones work and my AirPods Pro do not. I really would like notto have to buy new headphones to use it.
