Apple Podcasts app not playing sound

When I try to play a podcast through Apple Podcasts, the timestamp progresses as if it is playing, but there is no sound. I have tried it through the iPhone speakers, through Bluetooth, and even through Apple CarPlay, all with no success.

This started one week ago. Previously, I never had any problems with the app. All other apps work normally (i.e., Apple Music, YouTube, Radio Garden, etc.) with crystal-clear sound.

I have updated iOS and all apps, shut down the podcast app and restarted it, turned off silent mode, and tried the volume buttons. No change.
