Wondering if you may need to have iOS18.6 installed on the paired iPhone for the automatic update.

AirPods will usually update (more quickly than overnight) when connected to a Mac with up to-date MacOS software.

Else: See if anything in Apple Support's online article can help:

About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Update your AirPods or AirPods Pro firmware

  1. Make sure your iPhone, iPad or Mac is updated to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS or macOS, and that Bluetooth is on.
  2. Make sure your AirPods are connected via Bluetooth to your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
  3. Connect your iPhone, iPad or Mac to Wi-Fi.
  4. Connect your charging case to a power source.
  5. Put your AirPods in their charging case and close the lid. Keep the lid of the charging case closed, and keep your AirPods in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
  6. Wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update.
  7. Open the lid of the charging case to reconnect your AirPods to your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
  8. Check the firmware version again."

I have contact with Apple and they said my AirPods are fake (really good and even shows up in Find-my and Apple-ID) and the serial number is know by them.
So the fakes are at the moment very good copies, be aware of this!!!

That is why in every post here asking how to authenticate AirPods purchased from a third party, the answer is always that there is no way and if you want to be sure then you must purchase from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller. The serial numbers are just copies of legitimate AirPods, so there is no serial number check that is effective.

They have been noted as being seen in Find My, so that was never a check that could be used and some even have the Transparency option, although it may not work as expected.

Thanks for updating your post as the Firmware test may be useful for authentication, although impossible to do remotely for those looking to verify before purchasing and there may not always be a Firmware update available to test after purchase.

Your tagline shows that your phone is using Beta software where there is no support and you should be expecting many things to not work correctly. If you are having trouble updating the firmware on your AirPods, removing the beta would be the obvious step to take, unless you want to wait for the release version. As recommended by Apple, it certainly should not be installed on a primary device needed for critical daily activities.
