iPhone15pro running current IOS freezes when receiving an iMessage with a GIF file embedded.

It only freezes for that individual sender. I am unable to scroll or do anything. I have learned that if I call the sender, some functionality will return, but if I try to scroll back in my messages to where GIF message was it locks up again. I have tried all of the recommended steps, does not appear to make a difference.
