Malware pop up appeared
I was just browsing the web when this pop up appeared out of nowhere. I didn’t interact with this pop up and closed the browser. Is this just a scam?

That advertisement has bad grammar, a countdown, percentages, and patently absurd claims.
It’s probably offering a VPN app too, which are somewhere around d sketchy at best, and which are completely unrelated to the claims in the advertisement.
Of course it's a scam.
Virus Warning! What to do! - Apple Community
Or as I prefer to think of it, Viruses, Trojans, and Worms! Oh My!
More entertaining examples, including one that appeared on my Apple Watch, here.
As it is just another scam. Actually it is an advertisement that appeared from the website you were visiting and they were paid to display that to you. You will find those frequently on websites that are considered less than legitimate.
There is no possible way a virus could exist on an Apple device.
A sketchy website with HTML and some simple scripting a popup message because it was able to detect your device does not make it authentic.
Stay safe by ignoring that phony message and never visit that website again.
All the best! 👋🏼😉
You wandered pretty deep into the woods my friend
