The Apple standard for its built-in hardware-accelerated displays, makes them suitable for full-motion video for production/display of cinema-quality video with NO dropped frames, and NO dropouts or partial-blank scan lines due to memory under-runs or other issues. This requires a hardware rasterizer/display-generator for each fully-accelerated display, supported by Huge memory bandwidth to refresh each display 60 or more times a second.
if any errors in transmission are detected, the display may be disconnected.
That is why the lengths of USB-C and DisplayPort cables need to be ONE meter or less, and cables should be certified cables to austere highest quality.
I expect your setup over USB-C is marginal for some reason, and after Restart, it made an error and the Mac shut it off.
its right on the edge of working.
sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't.
Its flaky.
Better cables might improve the situation enough to make it more solid. Got any USB-C cables that have the SuperSpeed Plus logo or the USB-20 Logo on them?
3 feet is the limit for USB-C cables used this way. Does your cable have USB-C identifying marks showing that it is certified to any standard?
are you also using additional displays connected in other ways ?
There should be no interaction, but it may provide an opportunity for a different connection that could work better.
That Asus PA297CRV appears to be a 4K display with 10 bits/color and 60 Hz refresh rate.
interfaces include:
USB-C x 1 (DP Alt Mode)
DisplayPort 1.4 x 2 (Daisy Chain)
HDMI(v2.0) x 2
The front USB-C ports can not support this display adequately.
How long are the cables you are using to make the connection?
T+o see if you maybe blew out the USB-C port on the display, you could try reducing the resolution to something FAR lower. If that works, then it means the port is OK, but your cable may not be quite good enough.
cable length is 3 feet. plugged into rear USB-C ports on the Mac Studio. All was fine for the past year until todays restart
Plugged Mac Studio in via HDMI with no issues. Have tried all USCB-c ports on back of Mac Studio with no results. Why would a simple restart cause this to happen?
So how do I get it to turn it back on? Nothing has changed since I bought the monitor a year ago and I am using a certified USB-C cable
Things have aged. Sometimes they are cold, other times hot.
It's likely marginal. When everything lines up against you, it will not work properly.
what the heck is that supposed to mean?
