i was using my macbook in school and i out my phone against the open screen and the macbook's screen started glitching (grey lines going horizontally). i was wondering if its normal or should i replace my screen.

No. This is not normal.
Get these Diagnosed by Apple:
There would be no cost to it. Thing is, I do not think they would look at it if you do not set up a Genius Bar Appointment at your local Apple Store. So, set one up, seeing where things can go from here.
Apple uses magnets for many things on all its devices. In particular, the MacBook lid-closed sensor may be magnetic.
Keep your devices physically separated and you will be fine.
