CarPlay sound lost while charging my iPhone

When using my iPhone to listen to music either via CarPlay or blue tooth it is fine until I plug the phone into the usb to charge the phone then all sound is lost. If I unplug the usb sound is again ok. I often have to charge the phone via a usb and have never had any problem with the music sound.

I have tried disconnecting car play and blue tooth and resetting which does not resolve the issue.

Any ideas what could be causing this?
