How to change resolution of extended display to 2560 x 1080 on Macbook Air

I am trying to change the resolution of my extended display from the 1920 x 1080 default resolution that macOS automatically made it to its recommended resolution of 2560 x 1080. I went into settings under displays, but I couldn't find the 2560 x 1080 I want. I found a few videos that show how to do it with external applications or on older OS versions, not Sonoma, which is what my Mac is on. I would prefer a native solution over using a third-party application. Thanks in advance.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 14.6

LG – LG 29WN600-W 29 inch 21:9 UltraWide WFHD IPS HDR10 Monitor with FreeSync

LG – Help Library – LG Monitor - Connecting to a Mac (seems to be generic, not specific to your display)

That's a 29" 2560x1080 monitor with a maximum refresh rate of 75 Hz. It has two HDMI inputs and a DisplayPort input. It appears to support HDMI v1.4 and DisplayPort v1.4.

I can't think of anything to try, except

  • Making sure that your HDMI adapter and cable support 4K, or
  • Substituting a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter cable (that supports 4K) for the USB-C to HDMI one that you must be using now.
