Message history disappeared for only 1 contact

message history for 1 contact disappeared for all history older than the previous day. Checked deleted folder, turned off and on phone, turned off and on iMessage… I also tried to recover from a backup from 1 week earlier… I KNOW I had history for that contact at that time AND EVEN THE DAYS LEADING TO THE MORNING IT ALL DISAPPEARED. I had only lost it earlier today sometime, possibly overnight. Even the recovery does not bring up the history. I have iPhone 16 pro… and on iOS 18.5

Update: what I notice is that if I do a search for this contact, I can see the message history in the results list…I can go into them and see all of the history but I can’t see it in the main message window with the contact. And I did check the contact name and info are the same between what’s in the history vs what’s in the current active message window.
