How do I get an accurate step count on Apple Watch while using a walker?

I use an Apple Watch and phone when I walk but I don’t get an accurate step count when I walk as I use a walker and my arms don’t move.

I often use my walker or, when shopping, use the shopping carts. Since this restricts the motion of my hands, I take the watch off and either place it in a Crossbody purse or in a side pocket. Either way will catch your steps. But keep in mind please, that since the watch sensors will not be in contact with skin, these methods will skew other data. But if steps are what you want to capture, as I do, then this should work for you.
