Pioneer BDR-S13EBK Drive MacBook Pro Compatibility?

Will a Pioneer BDR-S13EBK external Blu -Ray drive work with a mid 2014 Macbook Pro running Big Sur OS 11.7.10? Pioneer specs do not indicate Mac compatibility yet Pioneer user groups suggest that it can work with Macs. I am thinking about buying one and want to make sure it is compatible with my MacBook Pro before purchasing. Thanks!

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 15.5

The Pioneer BDR-S13EBK is an internal Blu-ray drive, designed for desktops. It is not directly compatible with a MacBook Pro unless you use:

  • A compatible USB 3.0 external enclosure (SATA to USB)
  • Proper macOS Blu-ray software (like MakeMKV or VLC for reading; Roxio Toast for burning)

So yes, it can work with a MacBook Pro with the right external case and software, but it's not a plug-and-play solution.
