Keep Messages for 30 Days No Longer Works

For months my messages won’t delete after 30 days. I have to keep going into my settings and choose keep for 1 year or forever and then select keep for 30 days to get them to be deleted. Is this a bug? Or is there another setting that I may have changed that can conflict?
