Can something be done about AI-generated spam music in Apple Music?

With the recent passing of musical satirist Tom Lehrer, I thought I'd look him up in Apple Music. The top album listed as the most "recent release" has some of his real songs, mixed with some that are clearly and badly AI generated. I've used AI music apps like Suno and it's very familiar, plus there's no known references to these songs. Clearly this is a fake album with AI generated cover art that someone is profiting from.

Is there a proper way to file a complaint or flag it?

Here's one example song (AI generated content): https://music.apple.com/us/album/were-gonna-put-a-man-on-the-moon/1828485370?i=1828485373

No such thing as AI spam music on Apple Music.

All Music on Apple Music is provided by the rights holders, studios or media owners. Apple does not have a say in what gets uploaded by them. All people uploading media to Apple Music must prove they own the music. People can't simply impersonate other studios or media owners and upload AI generated music.

Why exactly do you think some of it may be AI generated? What leads you to this conclusion exactly?

It's possible it's just a version of a song you are unfamiliar with.

I am very familiar with the Tom Lehrer originals and I have several of his LPs that my parents owned. The tracks on the LP you provide that say they are by Tom Lehrer sound like he is the one performing. I recognize those songs. Note that "Tom Lehrer's Band" does not mean Tom Lehrer has to be in the band. The "band" tracks by that band also sound like modern recordings. I do not recognize any of the songs by the band. So to me the album sounds like a mixture of a few 1950s and 1960s audio quality Tom Lehrer originals, and then tracks performed by a different band that may not even be songs by Tom Lehrer.

I don't think there is anything illegal about the band name, just deceptive. When I do a general web search for tracks by some well known bands I see many music services offering tracks by bands that have similar names. Sometimes it could be a slight difference in spelling, or an added word. Basically many bands doing covers. You simply have to do more than give something a casual glance.

So it really is more a matter of buyer beware.

Jboolean,

Apple does not proactively look for copyright infringement, but will respond if the legal process is initiated by the infringed party. Tom Lehrer is a special case, since well before his death he took the unusual step of putting all his copyrights into the public domain.

As far as AI generated music, get ready. For example, Randy Travis has lost his voice due to a stroke, but used AI to provide his "old" voice on his new album. We will be seeing plenty of that in coming years.

I wanted to take the time to report the same issue. There is an artist called Poolside, and Apple Music has allowed two AI-contaminated full albums to take over the artist page for this band. They are given generic names like Poolside Music - Chill Synthwave Lounge Music for Resort Hotel Beaches. This is an AI-generated album and should not be listed on the same page as the human-based band called Poolside. I don’t know how random or inadvertent or malicious this error is on Apple Music, but there is someone that is not the Poolside original artist that is profiting from this. I just looked on Spotify and they did not allow the same thing to happen on the Poolside artist webpage. Apple Music should be the gold standard, and needs to find a way to get this under control. Please fix it!

Thank you,

Dustin

The owner who has the rights to the artist page just needs to fill out the copyright dispute form and send it to Apple. That is how any copyright dispute is handled. For all you know Poolside is profiting off of this or made an agreement to have content included on their Artist page. Contact the Artist/Publisher and see what they say. The copyright infringement form is available here if they are interested.

Thank you for the response! I appreciate it and will follow up with the artist, asking them that question of intent or participation vs unawareness. It almost seemed to me at first that an unknown author was trying to “punk” Poolside, since the instrumental background music they posted could sound similar to their previous human-made (with computer assistance) albums. I always thought their sound was most similar to when Daft Punk tried to become more human after all with their 2013 release Random Access Memories. Poolside is an extension of that, with a vibe that is more laid back as their name unambiguously suggests. Now we have two Poolside albums of elevator music purely generated by AI, according to my internet search, with the main difference being no lyrics. It is become a fine line to distinguish between AI and the real stuff in 2025, especially in the case of techno or electronic-assisted artists. Very strange times indeed. I was just reading about “Viewbotting” with AI, and this case might fall into that category. Anyways, thank you for the reply and great points! I will contact the artist to ask the question, and try to keep up!
