Keystrokes for scientific symbols on iMac

Are there keystrokes for "scientific" symbols (i.e. ohm, degree) etc.?

You can quickly bring up all of the math symbols as well as others by pressing the Fn key after setting the System ➙ Keyboard settings pane like this:



You'll get something like this:



If you select this option under Keyboard:



You'll get this menu option in the menu bar:

Following key combinations for common scientific symbols on macOS.


  • Common scientific symbols:
    • ∑ (Summation): Option + W
    • π (Pi): Option + P, or Shift + Option + P
    • ∆ (Delta): Option + J
    • ƒ (Function): Option + F
    • Ω (Omega): Option + Z
    • ≈ (Approximately equal to): Option + X
    • √ (Square root): Option + V
    • ∫ (Integral): Option + B
    • ± (Plus-minus): Option + Shift + = (or Option + =)
    • ∞ (Infinity): Option + 5
