My mail has 57k messages and won’t load

I’ve tried to open my mail and I can only assume there was some update, but it says there’s 57k emails and eventually stops and won’t load my mail. I check my mail daily and delete unnecessary emails. How to I get rid of 57k emails I can’t see?
