Forgot MacBook Air Password - Fingerprint still working

Any way can i reset the laptop login code without erasing the whole device?? I can access the icloud, the command entry, anything as long as laptop still open.

I also wish to deactivate the password if that’s an option, without entering the old one!

I forgot my password while i was changing it. Now i try not to shut down my laptop so i can login using the fingerprint i sat up, now i have data that will be gone if i reset my laptop.

It is registered to my iCloud and i can erase it anytime i also took a Time Machine backup.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.5

Even though Touch ID works, you will eventually need to enter your password, so follow the steps above to reset it. You would need the password to remove the password. If there are current data, you can copy them to iCloud Drive (or Google Drive, etc.) or (depending on size) even email them to yourself.
