After editing a HEIC file I can only save it in jpeg and not in HEIC, which means I end up with 2 files,
why ?

Mac Studio, macOS 15.5
The Photos.app on macOS 15 can export edited versions of a photo in the HEIC format.
Just use the Photo Kind menu to switch from JPEG to HEIC, when exporting an edited photo.
Is the system version shown below your question correct or are you using Photos on an older system version?
There is no "Save" in Photos. In Photos, editing information is just added to a database. Could you let us know exactly what you're doing?
I would post that on the Adobe forums but I will say that there are a lot of options for a Save As command in Photoshop so check the manual on that.
I hadn't really noticed, but I see that on my Mac, Lightroom Classic>Export also does not offer HEIC as an export option. Apparently that's just the choice that Adobe makes…
What app are you using to edit these HEICs?
Duh, yes sorry - forgot to mention after editing in Photoshop I can't save back to HEIC.
So maybe it's a photoshop issue.
