I got new MacBook Air, but I think it is used

I bought a MacBook M4 air on 14 July 2025, brand new, sealed packaging — no iCloud login, no migration done yet. Out of curiosity, I checked the Documents folder right after setup and found a file named Sameer_XXX.csv, showing a creation date of December 2024.

This seemed odd for a new device. I haven’t connected any external drives or restored anything, so I’m just wondering — is there any scenario where this is expected? Or is it more likely the device was used or repackaged?

By the way Amazon hosts a completely legitimate Apple Store which is recognized as an Apple Authorized Reseller. Nothing wrong with buying it from that site. That is not to be confused with "Amazon Refurbished" / "Renewed" or anything else. Apple is the only legitimate source for legitimately refurbished Apple products.

However... if you have a problem, require service, exchange / return / whatever, Amazon will refer you directly to Apple. They absolutely, positively will not get involved.

At one time Amazon offered a more generous "no questions asked" return policy, the same one as most items sold on Amazon. In that past may have been justification for favoring Amazon vs. Apple directly. That is no longer the case.
