Upgrading my Mac Mini from 10.9 to 10.10

I completed the download process on my Mac Mini to upgrade from 10.9.5 to Yosemite 10.10 so I can be able be able to download an ilok fix that operates Pro Tools. It appeared to be a successful download but when I check out "about the Mac" it still say 10.9. I did also restart the computer. Also, I did restart the computer. Thanks for any help.

Apple provides the installer for Yosemite in the form of a disk image (.DMG file) containing an installer. After you download the .DMG file, you must open it to mount the image, then run the installer on the mounted image.

Actually, that will only extract the real macOS Yosemite installer to the Applications folder. The user then needs to actually launch the "Install macOS Yosemite" (or OSX) app that was extracted to the Applications folder.

thank you all for the suggestions, they were working. I almost completed the install until got to the agree to terms page, and the "agree" box was not highlighted, so I went back to see if I missed something and to try again. Well, I accidentally entered the wrong code, so now I it's stuck and I can't go back. I was so close to the finish line. arrghh!
