ADVC Canopus - 110 not showing under cameras in Sequoia and Final Cut Pro

My ADVC Canopus - 110 is not showing under cameras. Is there a setting I am missing? I'm running Sequoia 15.5 & Final Cut Pro 11.1. I have a mac studio Ultra M1. Not sure what happened. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi(bonjour),

This device is a converter analog-to-dv. It connects with FireWire cable, so you must use different adaptors to connect it to your Mac Studio. (This thread may help you: Capturing Video from DSR-11 Sony DVCam to… - Apple Community )

Here’s what google IA presents about this converter and FCP:

« To connect a Canopus ADVC-110 to Final Cut Pro (FCP), you'll need to connect it via FireWire and configure FCP for capture. Ensure the ADVC-110 is in the correct mode (analog in, DV out for capturing, or DV in, analog out for playback), and use the "DV" or "DV-NTSC FireWire Basic" Easy Setup in Final Cut Pro. You might need to use "Capture Now" instead of device control if the ADVC-110 doesn't provide timecode.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

1. Hardware Connections:

  • VCR/Source to ADVC-110:
  • Connect the audio and video output from your source (VCR, camcorder, etc.) to the corresponding input jacks on the ADVC-110.
  • ADVC-110 to Computer:
  • Connect the FireWire output of the ADVC-110 to the FireWire port on your computer.
  • ADVC-110 Mode:
  • Set the ADVC-110 to the correct mode (analog in > DV out for capturing, or DV in > analog out for playback).

2. Final Cut Pro Setup:

  • Open Final Cut Pro: Launch Final Cut Pro on your Mac.
  • Import/Capture: Navigate to File > Import > Media (or press Command-I).
  • Select Device: If you have multiple devices, choose the ADVC-110 from the list.
  • Easy Setup: In the Media Import window, choose the appropriate Easy Setup for your video format (e.g., "DV-NTSC FireWire Basic"). If you are experiencing issues, try "DV".
  • Capture Now: If the ADVC-110 doesn't provide timecode, you'll need to use "Capture Now".
  • Start Capture: Start playing your source video and then click the "Capture" button in FCP to begin importing.

Troubleshooting:

  • No Picture:
  • If you see no video, double-check the connections and ensure the ADVC-110 is in the correct mode.
  • No Audio:
  • Ensure the audio source is also selected in FCP, even if using the ADVC-110, as it might be listed separately.
  • Timecode Issues:
  • If you encounter timecode-related problems (especially with older tapes), you might need to use "Capture Now" instead of device control.
  • Compatibility:
  • Some users have reported issues with Thunderbolt adapters, especially newer versions, so ensure your adapters are compatible and working correctly.
  • Dropouts:
  • If you experience dropouts during capture, try adjusting the iMovie settings to avoid importing as individual clips and minimize the need for restarts. »
