How can i turn off the annoying AI suggestions on iPad running 16.11.7

Every time I’m using safari i get the AI suggestions but ALSO always get the dreaded message cannot connect so I’m forever going round in circles

iPad Pro, iPadOS 16

really annoying but I just started up my iPad to take a screenshot and AI has suddenly decided to work properly. hope it continues but thank you for replying to my request.
