I deleted the Apple Podcasts app from my phone because its ‘Documents and Data’ was taking up almost 3GB even with no podcasts downloaded. After reinstalling it to see if that cleared any space, it did take up less space, but the download podcasts functions just don’t work. If I press a download button, absolutely nothing happens.

Since you reported this issue, iOS 18.6 was released. This iteration of iOS has resolved some other known podcast app glitches, so my best suggestion would be to update your operating system. If I were you I would probably remove the podcast app first, since it’s not performing correctly. after your device is freshly updated, re-download the Podcasts app and hopefully all returns to normal.
