iMovie will not open or play iMovie files from a few years ago.

I used iMovie to capture a bunch of DV tapes a few years ago and have a lot of clips with the .mov extension. Get Info says the are DV Movies but nothing will play them including iMovie. I just bought FCP and it doesn’t recognize the files either. What am I to do? I want to be able to play them again.

Mac mini, macOS 15.5

How large is the .mov? Does it by chance have "dvau, DV AUDIO" when it is just a reference.mov the old iMovie v1-6 makes for the project or for the iDVD while the actual media files are elsewhere.

MPEG Streamclip (up to Mojave) allows to export such iMovie-edited reference.mov project if the media files are still there. Or just use the media files.
