How to prevent macOS from saving files with visible extensions?

In Finder Preferences I have unchecked the 'show all filename extensions' box. I can then hide the extension by going to Get info and checking the box. How do I stop the system saving files with the extension visible?

Thanks

When you have the File Save dialog box when initially saving a new document, you will need to click drop down list box with the dots & lines to make sure that "Hide Extension" is selected. See the following screenshot:

macOS Finder behavior regarding file extensions is complex. You may even need to do this for every app.

For files with their extension already showing, then you will need to use the "Get Info" panel for each file to hide the extension.
