Want to re-load a game at level 1, NOT level 11,967!!!

I have been playing a game for quite a while, and at level 11,967 I decided I want to play from the beginning. Frankly - it stopped being fun about 200 levels ago. It’s still a great game… I just want to start over.

I deleted by tap & hold>Delete app> acknowledge data loss. Verified it was not in the App Library, and not in any settings (storage, and iTunes Store has delete>allow on.)

I hard booted (not just restart). Then re-downloaded the game. It loaded at the exact same level I left. No goodies, understood, but the same level!?

I even signed out of the App Store, and signed in as my husband. It STILL reloads at level 11,967. Signed him out, re-deleted everything, hard re- boot. Re-signed myself in.

Now what do I do?

As Smilin-Brian noted, some games save your progress on their own servers. Logging back in with the same user account (which you need to do in order to avoid paying for the game again) reloads your progress.

You might be able to get the game to reset by first deleting it. Next, turn Game Center off. Redownload the game with Game Center still turned off.

If you're still at level 11,967, then there isn't much you can do than send a request to the developer and ask if they can delete your progress data. If it does start over, play a couple of levels and then turn Game Center back on. At that point, it may treat your new progress as where you want to be, or it may send you back to level 11,967. All depends on how the developer wrote the game.

According to the App Store for that game, it does not use Game Center. While you removed any data on your device when the game was deleted, check and make sure there is no data stored for the game in iCloud at Settings > [name on top] > iCloud > Manage iCloud Storage.

I would also check the Files app on your phone, as apps can also store data there after you give them permission.

And as stated by others, the developer can also save your game state on their servers, where you would not be able to remove it unless you were able to contact them. That is similar to the way Facebook stores game play data that they offer. Some of them do offer a way to reset the data in the app, but that is not always the case.

Hello again,

I emailed the app developer, and the email bounced. service@happyfoxgame.com (service@happyfoxgame.com) The address you sent your message to wasn't found at the destination domain. It might be misspelled or it might not exist.  Followed by the usual… check the spelling, clear the cache. Since I did a copy/paste, I didn’t misspell it.

Any other ideas?
