Turn off all Final Cut Pro timeline magnets

Please can someone help me to turn off every single piece of magnetism or stickiness or whatever it's called on the Final Cut Pro timeline. I know it's useful for many many people, but for what I need to do it's 😭

Even the squiggle key doesn't free things up.

Thank you for any help at all. I'm at my wits end 😳🤞

Select all your clips and type Command-Option-Up Arrow. Then type Command-Shift-G.

⌘⌥↑ will move ALL your clips out of the magnetic timeline into a "secondary storyline" (placing gaps into the magnetic storyline), ⌘⇧G will "break apart" the secondary storyline "grouping" — then you can put your clips wherever you want in time.

I am puzzled as to why you can't use the magnetic timeline as it is one of the "selling points" of FCP.

If you really need a conventional editor you should try the free version of DaVinci Resolve. It has more features than FCP and allows infinitely finer control of every aspect of editing.

The only things you would miss in the free version are the Magnetic Mask and Voice Isolation.
