Accessing external HDD by Disk Utility because lacks the proper privileges

When I try to open or erase an external drive on my Mini M2 by Disk Utility, it does not allow it, the warning is "The calling process or user lacks the proper privileges to perform this operation"

If I do it in my laptop M1, there is no problem. If I connect the drive by USB from scratch, it appears on the finder.

Both have Sonoma 15.5

The ownership is not clicked on the disk.

I've not found where is the problem to reverse it, checked everything on Accessibility and Privacy, but could not see any.

Thanks

Mac mini, macOS 15.5

"Accessing external HDD by Disk Utility because lacks the proper privileges"

-------

Unable to Access Drives:

See if there are any Profiles installed on this Mac. Profiles create rules and such to disallow activities such as device access and other privileges. So, see if you have any that you need to remove. I use profiles to block out my iSight Camera, as shown in my User Tip How to Use a Profile to Disable the iSight Camera in macOS 15 Sequoia - Apple Community.

Seeing and Removing Profiles:

  1. Open: System Settings
  2. Select: General
  3. Click: Device Management
  4. Click: the - button for anything of suspicion.

Some external drives have built-in firmware locks or are encrypted.

  • If the drive came with manufacturer software (like WD or Seagate tools), open it and unlock the drive first.
  • Check if it’s formatted with NTFS (Windows formats macOS can’t erase directly without special software). It will only have Read Access. No Write Access even. Unless you have NTFS for Mac installed after purchasing from Paragon. Microsoft NTFS for Mac

Not the case, all these ssds have been there for several years, I found the solution though, thanks

It is proper etiquette to actually provide the solution which worked for you in order to give back to the community whose assistance you were seeking. It is extremely frustrating to find a thread and someone hints at a solution, but no one knows what it is. Perhaps it will help someone else and it will help contributors who tried to assist you here to better assist the next person.

None of the advises provided worked out, and since it had nothing to do with the ssds, I restarted the unit and then all worked. Each time Apple makes an update of the OS, some "switch" is

moved or changed and I have to deal with a particular issue not occurring before. That is why I keep updates to the minimum possible. BTW, this was the third restart and then worked, nothing has change in my setup since 2021!
