Always On clock turns off at night by itself at night

Then I'd take this up with Gazelle. They are not an authorized Apple Seller. You take your chances when you buy from unauthorized sellers.

Do you know who refurbished the phone? If it wasn't Apple or an Apple Approved refurbisher, it's certainly possible it could have an non-authentic screen on your phone, which could certainly impact certain features, including the Always On Display.
