Sonoma sidebar stubbornly out of order

At the moment I have several attached backup drives, which show up nicely in order on my desktop. (Screen shot 1). I've tried to arrange them similarly in the Finder sidebar. (I know the startup drive will always appear first in the Finder itself.) No matter how I drag names in the sidebar into the order I'd like, items will shift out of position randomly, and some also duplicate names for no reason I can suss. (Screen shot 2) I've tried relaunching the Finder, shutting down and restarting the iMac, resetting the NVRAM. Is there some obscure fix I'm missing? iMac 2020, Sonoma 14.7.6.

13 (?) by my count is more than several— it is a record in my book.

I do not see how the Desktop icon order is going to be reflected in the Finder Sidebar...

You can try manually arranging them by drag & drop—

if it does not stick, I guess that is an issue for you.

I only have one external USB dongle to USBC so no way I can test your "multiple" drives to say more.

Is this a new issue, old issue, what changed, you do not say...

Your Sonoma 14.7.6. is current and up to date , the 14.7.7 is pending...
