iMac not detecting UPS through USB-C cable

Called company that checked - iMac not detecting UPS through Cable (via Thunderbolt USB-C port on back - port ok). Suggested buying USB-B (UPS device connection) to USB-C direct instead of USB A to C converter. Still not working.

UPS works but can't check status of device etc.

Ideas?

On my old (recent) iMac, i connected the CyberPower UPS to the USB-A. It worked. New iMac has no USB-A. Only USB-C. Software I installed is PowerPanel Personal for IOS (Mac) - different than whatever the old Mac used. Not working to connect/recognize the UPS when connected through the USB-C on the iMac. Spoke to company which said needs to be direct connection (not through converter which I had tried) - bought new cord to connect through USB-C but iMac still not detecting UPS. Shut down both UPS and Mac. Restarted. Still not working.
