MacBook Pro (2020) is not connecting to WiFi that it was just connected to.

My MacBook was connected to the WiFi just last night, as I was playing a game the connection slowly got weak and then it just disconnected. I tried to reconnect and when I put the password in it attempted to connect and then the prompt to input the password again came back up. I connected to my hotspot to see if it just wasn’t connecting to anything, though it did connect to my hotspot it was very weak and sometimes didn’t load tabs.

I tried putting in the google address, forgetting the network, manually inputting network, restarting Mac and router, reviewed my DNS settings, made sure Mac is updated, made sure time is correct, and some more things I’m sure I’m missing. I’m just really stumped and wondering if anybody else had an issue similar and was able to fix it.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 15.5

Wi-Fi Radio Signals from your Router fall off as the cube of the distance. Provided you are close to your Router and have clear line of sight and no competition from neighbors' Routers or known interference producers like microwave ovens.

All others need to do a more careful analysis to find out what is happening.

Wireless diagnostics:

Hold down the Option key while you click on the Wi-Fi icon on the menubar to open up the tools for investigating and fixing Wi-Fi issues

First is "Open Wireless diagnostics", which opens the wireless diagnostics Assistant, but does not proceed.

There are about eight different things you can do from here, but the top-level is to choose Diagnostics off the Window menu, or simply click continue, to do a quick check for Gross misconfiguration or operating problems. Your Admin password will be required. If any recommendations are shown, you should consider then seriously.

Next is to hold down the Option key and click the Wi-Fi icon as before. The screen that opens shows operating parameters of your Wi-Fi network. Screenshot, transcribe, or photograph the results and post back in a reply on the forums. Looks like this older one.

Get on a different wifi Network and compare your results (coffee shop, library, starbucks...)

Contact your Carrier/Internet provider if in doubt and see if there is a known current issue or outage.

typically issues of this sort get a high priority and expedited towards a resolve.

This would be out of your hands, simply try at a later time/day.

Yes that is my network, when I try to put the password in it attempts to connect but the thing pops right back up to ask for the password again.

that sounds like a password problem.

try forgetting that network, then you Mac will ask you for the password again (and remember it again).

Leroy Douglas has a good point.

But depending on what router and other equipment you are using, a network failure outside your premises typically shows as you can Wi-Fi CONNECT to your Router, but you can't get anything on the internet.

I would look first at a Router failure.

Have you cycled the power to your Router? You should try that.

Do the lights on the router reflect normal activity?
