Smapi being flagged as malware

Trying to mod my stardew valley and macos(obviously) won’t let me play the modded version, flagging it as malware and moving it to the bin. I have on older MacBook so none of the solutions I tried work, I don’t have moderation tools or whatever they’re called. I tried restarting my computer, reinstalling smapi, fixing it through terminal and nothing works. For whatever reason apple can’t just let people download it anyway like any other normal operating system so idek what to do atp. I wish I didn’t have to rely on hand me downs and could get myself an actually good device. Please don’t respond unless you’re helpful

Hello, I just had the same issue but fixed it in the following way:

  1. Go to system settings > privacy & security > developer tools. If you don't have this option, install XCode and developer tools.
  2. Add both your terminal and the SMAPI executable to the allowed applications list (exact file is called StardewModdingAPI and should be located in steamDirectory/Stardew\ Valley/MacOS/ after installation)

This is the only solution I have found.

It's going to be hard for anyone to be helpful based on your post. What is it you're asking for help with? It sounds as if you're having a problem with some third-party software that may have had unauthorized modifications made to it.

Are you running any third-party anti-virus or "optimization" software? You say you've tried to so some troubleshooting but you haven't said what you tried. Unless you tell us what you've already done, it's likely that people will tell you to do some of the things you've already done.

As to why Apple does or does not do something, only Apple knows that and they don't participate here. However, I'm not sure what you mean by when you say Apple doesn't allow people to download "like any other normal operating system." I've never had a problem downloading software. Mind you, I avoid sites that seem questionable.

It is up to the Developer for what OS they want to support. They offer this page for installation:

https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Installing_SMAPI_on_Mac

If you to think it is an Apple issue, then you have failed to read the very long install instructions for Windows, Steam, Android, and Linux Operating Systems. A normal app would be installed without any of these workarounds, which should be a clue for you as why they want you to bypass the security protections on EVERY platform.
