Change of toggle switches on iPad's floating keyboard?!

Why on earth did Apple decide to swap the toggle switches for language selection/emoji and numbers/punctuation on the floating keyboard overnight? Apart from the fact that the purpose of this change is completely unclear, it significantly hinders the typing process when you constantly press the wrong toggle switch automatically.
